Toward the beginning of the sample, Effie is disappointed with how Cape May, New Jersey feels in late September and says "It just feels so sad here, Henry. Sad and—I don’t know.” ... “Dull, I guess.” This is exactly how I felt while reading the chapters provided. The overall tone was just depressing and not in a way that made me want to learn more about the cause of the unhappiness. The two lead characters are quite dull, and I can already tell that Henry is set to become pretty despicable. Not for me.
