I was looking forward to Call of the Raven but it turned out to be disappointing, in my view. It achieved it's "revenge-for-love" story line and gave the reader what was promised but I found it to be over the top, over-stated, and crass at times. I am new to this author and have not followed the series that precedes this prequel, so I do not know if this is just the author's style or a writing style he used to portray the times, but I don't see myself reading more of his work to find out. Mungo St. John seems like a character that could have led an interesting series if his story was written differently as I suspect or hope it was in his previous appearances. I am a huge fan of historical fiction, but this one just didn't work for me
