I'm not going to lie. Although this book is beautifully written it was hard to stomach. How the slave trade was projected in Call of the Raven was brutal. I didn't like any of the characters because they were truly awful people, Mungo included. I'm happy those days are over and yes I know there are still human trafficking rings but nothing as bad as what I just read. If you can't stomach human torture and animal murder I would stay away. There is also ALOT of rape.

The book itself other than the slave trade (and rape) reminded me a lot of treasure island. It was a great realistic book about working on a cargo ship back in the 1800s. Overall wasn't my favorite but I did finish and thought the adventure pieces were great.

I received an ARC from Bookish First for my unbiased opinion.
