The story is set in the South at a time when slaves were just gaining their freedom. Mungo's family lives on a large plantation, but his family treats their slaves like family. Mungo falls in love with on of the young slaves and, after loosing everything to the family's lawyer/adviser, he stops at nothing to get the love of his life back. He has travelled the world twice over, trying to secure a fortune to take down the evil man that destroyed his life.
Along the way, Mungo encounters a lot of obstacles he must overcome. In order to overcome these obstacles, he has to turn evil himself. This is the tale of murder, destruction and passion, all in the name of love.
Some of the instances seemed a bit far fetched, but overall, I enjoyed the book.
