When I read the Author's Note at the beginning of this First Impression, I wondered if I would be annoyed about being thrown in at the end of a series I hadn't read. However, nothing about this book reads as though there is information to which I am not privy.

I really like the character of Mungo, and I completely understand what the author meant about how he's a character you hate to love and love to hate. He is an unabashed slave owner, and the debate that opened the story provided an excellent context for his beliefs. I just loved some of the points he made during and after the debate. I found that I had trouble tearing my attention away from the story once we arrived back in America, and I cannot wait to get my hands on this book to find out what happens next!
