I’m not sure how I feel about this one. As a story, I loved it. I love the writing style and I was definitely hooked on the story; I was surprised how quickly I got through this long excerpt. However, I’m uncomfortable with an older white man writing this story, and I’m uncomfortable with the pro-slavery arguments from the main character. That being said, based on the author’s note at the beginning and some of the foreshadowing in the excerpt, I’m guessing the book will correct the main character’s assumptions (or at least those of the reader) by the end.
