I think I'm just not a fan of Wilbur Smith. This first look wasn't as bad as some of his others, but I still didn't find the story compelling. The writing feels choppy, the characters seem shallow--just not my thing. But I will say this was a lot better than some of his other things I've read, so maybe one day I'll be a fan.
