So, the main character of this book is introduced at a meeting where he is "villainized" for defending his plantation and how his father's slaves are really well treated, so it's not that bad. It's disgusting to me that the myth of "good" slave owners still exists, especially as how people view the past informs how they view current issues. The fact that the main character of this story holds these views and it's painted in the light that this is a perfectly rational thing to think makes me sick.
