I have read a number of Smith's books and have enjoyed them all. The ones I have read have taken place in different eras and different settings and his writing creates each place in history perfectly.
The Civil War is such an interesting period in US history and I always love reading about it. Having lived in Lousiana, this story is particularly compelling to me.
