While I admit this kind of book isn't usually my cup of tea, I find myself reluctantly ensnared, largely because I'm left wondering about the fate of poor Camilla and how (if possible) Mungo can redeem himself. It seems like such a shame to write a charismatic character and assign him the role of devil's advocate, especially on such an important issue. Wilbur Smith's writing style combined with my curiosity means that I will likely add this to my reading list. I'm anxious to see if Mungo's opinion on slavery changes throughout his journey.
