I have not read any of Mr. Smith's previous novels, however, this one leads to me believe that I should! Call of the Raven is a prequel that introduces us to Mr. Mungo St. John who is an avid slave dealer/supporter. He is a smooth talker and handsome to boot, which makes him feel like a slick, oily character. He reminds me a bit of the character Calvin Candie from Django Unchained. The writing was fantastic and I am very interested in reading further as I do love Southern Historical Fiction.
