This is an action-packed historical novel about Mungo. Based on the interesting letter to readers at the beginning of the First Look, I believe Mungo is a character in proviso novels by Wilbur Smith. This may be his backstory. Mungo is called from Cambridge to come home to his plantation after his father's death. Mungo is charismatic and used to getting its own way through his intelligence, wit, and strength. Unfortunately, his father's will is not executed as planned. It's apparent there will be some vengeance coming with lots of action.
For me it's not a good fit- I probably would have enjoyably read this in my teenage years. For now, there are too many other books I'd rather read. I would describe this as historical action. Not bad, just not for me.
