Who isn't a sucker for a good Austen reprise, especially when it's Persuasion?

Persuasion is tricky stuff, true - an ageing heroine who simply won't stand up for herself, stuck in an all too believable rut as she ages out of the marriage market and sees a long future as her ungrateful family's handmaiden. How clever of Sonneborn to set her updated version on a modern California college campus with an academic protagonist as the new Anne Elliott, oops COREY, smart and sensitive but prone to making the wrong choices, especially when it comes to her lost love - and current boss - Adam Martinez. A refreshingly smart romance that mentions Middlemarch, Tennyson and James in the first chapters along with Austen, so it must have something to it!
