On its face, this looks like a book that I SHOULD really like. The cover is visually striking and I was quite charmed by it. The blurb was intriguing enough to make me want to take a look. Indeed, this is the exact kind of book I would pick up off the shelf to check out.
The "first look" lost me a bit, however. I sometimes struggle with third person POV and this was one of those cases. My eyes started skimming before my brain even registered that I was doing it. It didn't hold my interest the way I wanted it to. By the time I hit the second chapter, I knew that while I found parts of it charming and engaging, it was a little uneven for me and I would likely skim my way through to the finish. Ultimately, in a world full of books I want to read, this would likely not make the cut.
