What Jane Austen devotee is not going to want a retelling of one of her masterpieces? Just as Austen herself used story to poke holes in the conventions of her time, especially those surrounding courtship, so these modern versions tell us where we've gotten off track. Judging by the first chapter of By the Book, Sonneborn will do an admirable job with this, as well as giving the reader a view into campus life and politics from the faculty's point of view. I suspect she'll keep us laughing over the foibles of our heroine and laughing at the glimpses of ourselves peeking out from between the pages. A must read addition to my TBR list!
