By the Book starts out great. The storyline is familiar and there is a certain expectation based on its original inspiration, Jane Austen's Persuasion.
I like that Anne, the main character so far, is portrayed as capable and independent. There's a short few paragraphs that describe her personality growth. Although still, like majority of romantically-inclined books, it's always has that Cinderella elements of when major change happen in the character's development.
The peek on Adam and Anne's early relationship was a treat. I think it might be partially revealed as flashback as the chapters continues. Also the story line that Anne needs to get a book deal to keep her job could be an interesting take on growing the layer of the story.
