As someone who doesn't read crime novels on a regular basis this one caught my interest and held me until the very end and made me want more. The character development and Lynda la Plante's writing style just leaves you hanging on the edge of your seat.

When a body is found burned beyond recognition with a substantial amount of money along with it at Rose Cottage its up to Detective Jack Warr to figure out exactly what happened and the ride is a wild one including a diamond heist and a train robbery.

The only few negatives I had were the beginning I felt was a little slow I felt that it would have been a little less into the family history and more to do with the case. I also didn't enjoy the flashbacks because it didn't leave much to the case.

Very good read for those who like crime novels!
