This book is one of the first mysteries I’ve read, and I must say, it sets a rather high bar for any future reads. The author does a really good job of writing complex and nuanced characters that seem very real to me, because if the way they experience very real emotions and thoughts.
The reader gets to witness the struggle that the main character has in separating his job from his emotions and personal struggles, and why he can’t seem to separate the two, in a way in which I see very rarely. It’s important to a realistic fiction book, but in this case, the author manages to do it in a way that feels unique.
For example, we get to see other people’s point of view on the main character sometimes, and how his actions impact them and their work or life, and this paints a very well rounded picture of his story and the mystery he is trying to solve.
