Buried is Lynda La Plante’s debut for her new series. We are introduced to D.C. Jack Warr, who has just moved to London with his girlfriend and it struggling to find his place and purpose in the force. When Jack gets assigned to his first stimulating case he is thrown into a universe of train robberies and diamond heists.

The plot is entwined with La Plante’s break through work, television’s Widows, and connects the narratives of countless alluring characters spanning decades. You can detect the author’s background in television as her writing style is captivating and fast paced.

There were many intertwining plots and developing characters that at times could feel disjointed (Jack alone is working on the case, navigating his relationship, coming to terms with a dying adoptive father, and investigating his birth father). While, I assume, this is in preparation for future books in the series it didn’t feel necessary within the scope of a single novel.

Overall, Buried was a fun read that I would recommend for classic crime lovers.
