Buried is a wonderfully crafted mystery that deftly navigates viewpoints from the past and present. From the get-go, the mystery draws you in: a burnt down cottage, a charred body, and scorched bank notes. Our protagonist, DC Jack Warr, has just moved to London, where he gets drawn into the case. During this time, he also begins to accumulate more information about his birth father, and the two investigations begin to become intertwined. Although this past/present thing can be a bit difficult to follow, I found it to be done quite well in this novel and it did not impede my understanding of the plot in any way. Although the mystery was a bit predictable, it was still very satisfying to watch all the pieces come together. Buried is definitely a thrilling novel; I couldn't put it down and when I finished it I was desperate for more! Good thing it's part of a series.
