Jack Warr is a police officer who doesn’t quite know where he belongs until a charred body is found at Rose Cottage. This murder case opened up a past that Jack was not quite ready for but dove in to find out who he really was. From the Grange women, to Harry Rawlings and a 20 something year old robbery the police are pulled in many different directions but Jack is steady in both his gut instincts and the family he is trying to find that left him behind. Every character is developed to the point where you really feel as though you are part of the investigation. Lynda La Plante kept the intrigue alive where I was constantly turning the page saying “one more chapter”. If you love crime fiction this is a must read!
