Several years ago, Lynda La Plante introduced Dolly Rawlins in Widows. After her involvement in a theft and serving a prison sentence she was released in 1994. She joined several of her fellow former prison mates in a celebration, knowing that there had to be a reason for the gathering. Fast forward to the present, where a charred body has been discovered after a fir at Rose Cottage. There is also the charred remains of two million British pounds, part of the money that was never recovered from the Rawlins theft.

La Plante introduces DC Jack Warner, new to the London area, who seems to lack the drive and ambition of the other members of the squad. Knowing how La Plante allowed the tension to grow in her previous books, I am sure that DC Warner will become deeply involved as the author reveals what happened in the intervening years. I can not wait to see where she takes Warner and the Rawlins saga in her latest.
