Wow, an emotional beginning to what will be a rollercoaster of a book

A sentence that the author wrote in her intro to the book really stuck out to me: "I wanted to tell a story where a person in pain doesn't pretend." Even within the first few pages, there is a lot going on. I enjoyed the interaction of the main character with her father, her friends, and even people in the neighborhood. The author says to prepare for lots of feelings to come out in this book- I would like to see what happens next.
