I wanted to like this first read. I feel like it could be compared to The Hate U Give but it has a different feel and personally I found it hard to get into the first few chapters. I need a better mind frame to comprehend what I'm reading with this story. The complicated relationship of Yaminah and her mother Sandra are definitely at the forefront and it's a direct line into grief a person who hurt you. I'm not sure where the book will go but it will be an exploration of emotions.
