I think really good YA appeals to a variety of ages, but this is too teen-angsty for this adult, and the difference between the two generations (the protagonist and her father) feels exaggerated, as if the author is trying to appeal to teens by dismissing the father's job and feelings. Not for me, but I'm sure it will find plenty of actual teen readers. :)
