This book sounded appealing to me after reading the synopsis of it, and once I read the first look, I was impressed with the author's telling of the story. I really liked the characters of Yaminah and her father, who live together in Brooklyn and often find themselves butting heads with each other. I liked how Yaminah's internal struggles were relatable, and how strong of a character she was. I already know that this story is going to be heartbreaking, but I definitely want to know more about the mystery surrounding Yaminah's mother and what will happen throughout the rest of the novel. I also really like the cover of the story; it is a powerful image.
