This coming of age novel had me hooked from the very beginning. It begins with a conversation between Minah and Pop that really portrays the type of relationship the two of them have. At times I found it hard to follow along with Minah and Pop's dialect. I was not very fond of the language used between Minah and Pop, especially when learning that Minah is 17 years old but again this sets the stage for the type of relationship they have.
When Minah learns about the passing of her mother I begin to ask myself many questions. Why does she refer to her as Sandra and not mother? Why did her and pop move way from her? What caused the divorce? What did Sandra do to Minah that would cause her to believe she was better of without her? Is Tiff an instigator? Why did she have to tell Minah of the death in that manner? I cant wait to get my hands on his book and read more to find out all the answers to my questions.
