Multiple stories, so there's something for everyone
At first, I wanted to stop reading because the first story was too country/farmer for me. I didn't like the dialogue, and I especially didn't like a woman spitting onto her hands to put up her ponytail. Gross.
But, taking this book for what it is, a collection of other lives, not just farmers, I enjoyed this book. I am always interested by stories of temptation, carnal pleasures and the like (I'm a huge John Irving fan after all), so this book hits that sweet spot.
