I enjoy short story collections so of course I was intrigued by this collection. Sadly, my interest quickly waned after the first story, "A Body of Water". This story was something else. My issue was the fact that the main character, whose name I don't think was given, was creepy. Here is a selection of quotes from him:
"Most women talked your ear off. Sally was the exception."
Statistically women talk less than men but thank you for showing how sexist you are.
" Her hair brushed my cheek. The creamy vanilla scent of frozen custard. She'd been smelling like that since high school, and I almost licked her neck."
I physically cringed at this line and it is so gross.

Then (spoilers if you are still interested in reading the story) Sally wants nameless MC to get her pregnant as she as her husband refuses to touch her and she wants a child. Now, I can empathize with her situation but I don't think that she went about this the right way. If you bring a child in a marriage with problems, and frankly if there aren't problems now there will be when her husband finds out that this kid isn't his, then that child most likely will not have a positive, healthy childhood. I don't think that Sally (or the author for that matter) completely thought this through as the plans seem short sited. As for what I think actually happened, the author just wanted the MC to fulfill his teenage fantasy and call it romance.
