I was a big fan of Prime Suspect on PBS. Jane Tennison is its star. This new book was a look into the old Tennison. It picks up after Jane has been kicked off an elite squad after freezing during a firefight. Now she's safely tucked away in a quiet station until a most brutal murder captures everyone's attention. We slowly learn there's even more to be uncovered.
I found it hard to see the strong, smart DCI Tennison I knew from TV relegated to getting coffee & sandwiches. She has a natural intuition which others don't recognize, yet. The book is full of details regarding investigative procedures which I found slowed down the story. But maybe that's because I'm more a fan of mystery than police drama.
I can see the beginnings of her history with drinking and the wrong men. She doesn't get the credit she deserves and her self esteem suffers. And I felt the book ended suddenly, without complete closure.
But you should definitely read and see for yourself!
