I'm familiar with Prime Suspect due to the series starring Helen Mirren, and I really enjoyed it a decade ago. So I was eager to dip into the book version of Jane Tennison. I was surprised to find that this version of her is hesitant, seemingly eager for male approval, and just all-around not an appealing character to me. The writing style also wasn't my favorite...(It WAS fascinating, as a US-based reader, to imagine a world like the one described here, where a 30-year-old police officer could be getting secret intro-to-guns training...I like that world more.)
