Blunt Force by Lynda La Plante started off slowly for me. It was a bit of a disappointment, at least initially. The writing was stiff, lacking any emotion that endeared the reader to the characters. There was a great deal of telling and the dialogue did not feel authentic. However, once the detectives investigated a brutal murder, which happened towards the end of the excerpt, the story became more interesting.
