The first line drew me in immediately, but my interest quickly waned with the excessive clothing and brand name descriptions. I wanted to skip along and get to the 'meat' of the matter without being beat over the head with how the woman's portrayal of her high society position - one she didn't fully live up to.
After scanning, I found the meat. The wow moment that took too long to get to. The deliciously written scene where Maud shoots her gun--that's where the story truly begins--but by that time I'd already been turned off.
