I have never been a fan of socializing with the rich, mainly because I am not one. But this book makes me wish that for one day, I could be wealthy and a part of the New York elite, just so I could get a glimpse into the underpinnings of this novel. Maud walks into The Four Seasons and shoots Sun Sunderland, an extremely wealthy power player, in front of all of the lunch guests for the day. Then she walks out and escapes. What?!? That is a very unlikely scenario written in a very believable way. The scene changes to Greta’s dinner party where the guest of honor witnessed the shooting and regales the other guests with the scene ad nauseum, literally. This book is a frolicking good view of the wealthy who attack each other behind scenes and defend each other to their faces. I would love to see how Maud gets out of this shooting and especially whether Sun lives or dies since his wife Jean is convinced that he will pull through. I also want to read it to learn more about Maud’s life and her expertise with poker, but mostly what happened to make her go so boldly into a classy restaurant and shoot a regular patron there. I loved this first look and I am definitely craving more!
