Caught up in the first sentence

I have not read the rest of the series. I started the first one on audiobook a while ago but didn’t like the narrator’s style so I stopped listening. I’m thinking about buying it now after reading this excerpt. In the first paragraph I was riveted. I wanted to know what was going on and how things would turn out. As an avid reader these days this is not easily accomplished. I am picky about the books I choose and especially so in YA fantasy which has become very dull in recent years. Most YA has a girl or boy who is powerless and then discovers power and then there is a romance. This may follow that plot, I don’t know but the fact that it caught my attention so quickly is enough for me to say it is worth a try.
