A riveting opening
Susan Dennard plunges you straight into Aeduan's backstory, teasing just enough about what we'll learn about him over the course of the book that these 7 chapters are NOT ENOUGH, not when we have to wait for the rest of the book. I want to know about his life, and how his relationship with Iseult plays out - which is saying something considering I didn't think they were much of a couple by the end of Windwitch, but am shipping them after two chapters!
Safi's chapter grabbed me the most - the vivid descriptions and the lush writing plunging me into her mindset. Stix looks like she'll be a really cool character, and there's quite a mystery set up by her single chapter.
I haven't read Sightwitch yet, so the Merrik chapter probably would mean more if I had.
The cover really grabbed me, mysterious swirling smoke and the dynamic motion.
