Blood and Moonlight starts strong and keeps going. Cat witnesses a murder through some magic she was unaware she even had. She then becomes involved with a detective named Simon as they try to track down a madman who's on a murdering spree.

The best thing about this book was Cat's occupation. I loved hearing about the architecture of the Sanctum and Cat's job in inspecting for damage to prevent accidents. I thought the world building .in general was really well done. There were clear magic systems and dividing cultures. I was hooked from the get go into Cat's story. The way she was able to feel the crimes happen and get a sense of the victims was unique. She also had a really interesting backstory delving into magic.

I also liked that we were shown some "madness" as it's called, but we know as mental illness. It was interesting to see some how that was viewed in a more historical setting. I think it was dealt with respect in regards to the character, while also noting that this is just one perception of that illness.

My biggest complaint was that we jumped around from suspect to suspect too much. By the end you don't have the satisfaction of finding the killer just the relief of knowing suspicion won't be cast on yet another person. By the end, literally every character had been under suspicion and that just doesn't increase the suspense or the thrill. It just felt like the killer analysis was too broad that anyone could fit it.

I would recommend this to people who liked Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco or for anyone interested in a little magic, murder, and madness!
