I was wanting to get back into YA books this month and this one just has everything I’ve been interested in lately. Blood and Moonlight is a medieval fantasy detective story. There’s a slow-burn romance, magic, and lots of mystery. The story’s primary objective is to stop a serial killer on the loose, but the secrets surrounding Catrin’s heritage and the magic in this land were just as intriguing (as the title suggests, magic is tied to moonlight). I admit the book would have been just fine without the romance but I still enjoyed the angst. The only issue I really had with the story was the length. I think the book could have probably cut out around 100 pages and been just as good. The middle did started to drag a bit but thankfully it picked back up again towards the end. The investigation tied up nicely but there’s enough material left for what I hope will be a sequel.
