It’s hard to tell from the opening chapters of this book where the story will progress and how well it will develop - there is not as much story building in this opener as world building. That said, the world at hand is promising. The main character has an engaging and clear voice, and is pretty quickly someone who I am interested in following through a story. The implied elements of the supernatural and overall sense of uncanny do a good job helping one suspend disbelief when entering into this world as well. There’s clearly a mystery being set up, and I certainly find myself interested in following that.
