Somewhat typical but good start to a YA fantasy novel, this one starring Catrin who has an interesting and unique "job" as a scaffolding inspector for a large government (or religious?) sanctum. She is involved in the discovery of a gruesome murder almost immediately.

Several other interesting characters are also introduced during this murder discovery scene, friend or foes? - Unknown!

Author does a good job of introducing the main characters and concepts in these first chapters, as sometimes that is initially the most difficult part of a fantasy novel - unfamiliar terms, character types, "world" concepts - I feel like this is deftly doled out through the two chapters.

I am invested in the main character and would like to finish this novel. I look forward to learning more about this "world" and how the murder will be solved. I would definitely recommend to my YA daughter as well.
