From these first pages, I can tell this story is right up my alley. The author does a great job of establishing a darker atmosphere, hinting at religious and political tensions, corruption, and inequality that I expect will play a role in the story.
The main character, Catrin, seems independent and strong - always enjoyable in a female MC. The first look hinted at potential latent supernatural powers, and I'm intrigued to see how that progresses.
We briefly meet Simon, an "expert on madness", and I look forward to learning his story and seeing how insanity plays a role in the story and is treated by the characters.
