Sometimes I don’t feel like fantasy. When I started this book, I felt that way. But somehow, Tricia Levenseller pulls me in to any book I read by her, and this was no exception. I loved the characters, and I am always game for an adventure/survival story. Suffice it to say, I added book 2 to my list immediately. The characters were by far my favorite aspect of this story. I always love the way the author develops them, they always seem very realistic. I loved Ziva, and the very difficult choices she had to face endeared her to me even more. There is a lot of gray morality in this story too, which is one of my favorite things in a book. I also loved that Ziva has anxiety, and that the representation is woven throughout the story. Very refreshing in a fantasy! I also loved the cast of characters that ended up joining Ziva on her journey, but I will keep the bulk of that secret so that you too may enjoy the story!
