Love This New YA Fantasy!
I really enjoyed Blade of Secrets. Ziva, a blacksmith, who creates weapons imbued with magic is the only person known to have this power. She and Temra, her younger sister, are orphaned and supported by Ziva's weapon-making, but when Ziva creates an all-powerful sword for the wrong person, they are forced to flee. Joined by a mercenary and a scholar, the four travel the land in search of safety, a way to destroy the sword, and learn a great deal about themselves along the way.
A main plot point is that Ziva suffers from social anxiety disorder and has long depended on Temra to handle the social aspects of their lives. I appreciated this element that differentiated her from any other YA protagonist I can remember and championed her as she and Temra prove to be powerful and learn to trust their newfound family.
I am looking forward to reading Master of Iron, the conclusion of this series.
