Review:

I really enjoyed this story and I am excited for the second book to come out July 2022! I liked that Ziva was (and still will be) learning how exactly her powers work. It made it so that anything new wasn’t just a surprise to the reader, but also to Ziva. I loved how Ziva’s social anxiety was portrayed as well. We got her thoughts and mindsets behind some of her actions/reactions to different things and how she had to work herself up to speaking for some of the things that caused her anxiety to flare up. It was also cool to see someone outside of Ziva and her sister able to put words to what she instinctively did for her anxiety (like hiding in her sister’s shadow if possible to keep attention off of herself). It was also interesting to see how some of the weapons Ziva made worked and to hear abot how she made them.

Ziva prefers to spend time in her forge or with her sister over spending time around other people. And while she works in her forge, Ziva crafts weapons and makes them more than any other of its kind. She makes them have magical properties (like putting more force behind a blow, or stealing the breathe of those in your immediate vicinity).

But when she is commissioned by a warlord to make a blade that is even more powerful than anything she has made before, Ziva outdoes herself on accident. She creates a blade that could not only topple many soldiers in one swipe, but it can also tell the holder of the blade a person’s secrets once they are cut by the blade. Which Ziva finds out after the warlord tests the blade’s sharpness and the warlord’s secrets of taking over the kingdom floods Ziva’s brain.

Afraid of what the warlord would do with the weapon Ziva created, Ziva and her sister go on the run with a mercenary and a scholar with the warlord hot on their tails.

Will Ziva be able to stop the warlord before it’s too late, or will the warlord cause much more devastating destruction on the hunt for them?
