I don't normally enjoy fantasy or YA, but the fiery cover and reading the first chapters of Blade of Secrets piqued my interest. I was immediately drawn into the story of Zeva and Temra and their sibling relationship. I was interested in learning more about Ziva and her occupation of a magic Bladesmith. However, once Zeva and Temra flee their home, the story focuses more on the relationships between the sisters, and their traveling companions, Kellyn and Petrick, and less and less on Ziva's magic. I did enjoy the banter between the friends, but did find myself rolling my eyes at some of the romantic scenes late in the book. ( I get it, it's for YA, but still).
The focus definitely switches from fantasy to romance as the book progresses.

Overall, fun YA adventure fantasy story. Won't be continuing with the series, but enjoyed this one.
