An interesting and immersive read. While the plot and the great world-building are amazing in the book, what truly shines is the character dynamics between Ziva, Temra, Kellyn, and Petrik.
From the get-go, I enjoyed the bantering between Kellyn and Petrik, especially when the mercenary would mention the scholar's 'dress'.
Ziva's magic and Temra's sword skills give a unique touch to the story and serves as a balance, like they were meant to always have each other's back. The younger's fiery spirit counteracts the older's constant apprehensions. Ziva is certainly a unique character, as I have never read a book with a protoganist with anxiety.
I would like to note that like the title, there are plenty of secrets scattered throughout the text, whether it's hiding one's past and relations from others or hiding the scope of dangers from others.
