First, I'd like to note how beautiful and strong the cover is. Yes yes, we're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but this cover is gorgeous and it speaks very loudly about the type of magical, adventurous book we are about to read.
Now for the first impression, I am very intrigued. You get just a little taste of the magic that will be spilling thru this book from the main character Ziva. I also like that she seems a little unsure of herself, and envies her sisters boldness, but I have the feeling that the further we read Ziva will find her strength. I'm also intrigued about the world/society the story takes place. You get a little glimpse of it in this short read, which is enough to make me want more.
