Not my cup of tea
This book started strong with good bones but quickly descended into one of those plots where the MC forgets a very important, traumatizing thing that slowly uncovers itself as the story progresses. Sometimes, I like these books, but this one felt like too much build-up for something unexciting.
I liked the idea of magical sisters and I love small-town mysteries where everyone is a suspect, but I think what steered me away from the book was the romance. I felt like it was a distraction from the plot.
Overall, I loved the atmosphere and the idea but I felt like the execution (especially the ending) was lacking. I wished there was more of a focus on the sisters and their dynamic; I felt like they were all very distant. Like I said earlier, the ending is what did it in for me.
I think people who like dark fantasy will like this but if you're expecting it to be like House of Hollow, you'll be disappointed.
