Bittersweet in the hollow was definitely not what I was expecting. I knew going into it that it had a lot of elements of magical realism, but I did not realize that the magic had a huge part of the plot. The magical realism didn’t bother me, but it definitely surprised me. I will say that I was able to guess the actual villain of the book, but I think that’s because I have a lot of experience guessing the bad characters. But, there was a plot twist that I was completely caught off guard with.
The characters and overall plot were pretty enjoyable. I liked that Linden, the main character, didn’t typically do stupid things that would put her in danger. I also really liked her relationship with her sisters and family overall in the book. I think the book really focused on the bond you have with your family, which was a nice touch. There was a tiny bit of romance which was cute; it wasn’t enough to say this was a mystery romance. But it was enough to make Linden’s story a little more interesting.
