The James family consists of three generations of women who each have special gifts for understanding and healing people. They also own and operate a popular restaurant in their small town. While the town celebrates the annual moth festival, Linden James’ good friend, Dahlia is found murdered which leads Linden to try and solve the recent murder, the decades old disappearance of a small boy and her own traumatic experience from a year ago, all centered around the festival.
I do enjoy good fantasy/magical realism and the author of this book did a good job combining the fantasy with a murder mystery genre for a fairly entertaining read. I did feel confused at times about each character’s role in the events, both past and present. Linden’s character was frustrating as she presented as unnecessarily reckless and secretive. Overall, I would have liked to have seen better character development and more background information about all the characters but especially the main ones.
